Call me curious, but is the Democaratic Alliance out to win the 2009 South African General Elections or are they aiming at just securing a position as the official/largest opposition Party ?
What brings me to this question ? I have noticed that the DA is most active in the Western Cape and their biggest reach has been in the media ( Print and Web Based ) mostly around the Jacob Zuma saga.
If the DA is aiming at winning the elections, can they achieve this by reaching out to the mostly the Western Cape and the Internet User ? I mean they have taken out web based ads too. Here in the Free State ( especially Bloemfontein ) the DA has been AWOL as far as visibility and active campaigning is concerned.
I have been to their websites, spoken to a few members, read the Manifesto but I am still not clear on their ultimate aim. I am no expert but I am sure that if one was to secure a win in the election, you would have to reach out to the masses in the rural areas and therby increase your voter base. Where do the votes that win elections in S A come from ?
If every single South African that came across the online DA ads voted for the DA as well as say 70% of the Western Cape , will that be enough to secure an election victory or will it just cement their position in the Western Cape only? What percentage of the South African Voter base has access to internet and other media that the DA is campaigning on ?
I am keeping my thumbs up for an effective opposition party , but at the same time I would like to see if there ever will be any real challenge to the ANC's dominance of the political scene on a National and Provincial level.
